Transportation Air Filter Solutions

2-19-1-prevost-busCTAtrainPermatron's air intake filters provide the first line of defense in preventing debris from entering the system. Cottonwood seeds, leaves, industrial waste, paper/construction debris and insects are continuously drawn into air intakes.  This costs thousands of dollars and man hours on equipment repair downtime and maintenance.  Debris insulates the coils, electronics and sensitive components, causing heat build-up, higher discharge pressure and amp draws.  Reduced air flow causes equipment to run for longer cycle times, at reduced capacity, decreased life expectancy, increased filter changes and escalating power costs.

Case Studies

  • Filtered Air on Ferries, Ships & Boats
Marine environments can be very unforgiving places when it comes to operating costly equipment and maintaining occupant safety and comfort. Tightly sealed vessels in a dark, damp atmosphere with wide temperature differentials can be an HVACR technician’s worst nightmare. Extreme weather conditions, sudden wind gusts and sea salt sprays all add to the corrosive environment. Space and weight are design problems for vessels, requiring heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment are kept to a minimum. Make-up air or fresh outside air is limited, especially down narrow halls and stairwells leading to closed off lower rooms. Stagnate old air has no place to go and needs constant ventilation for recycling. Airborne dust particles, bacteria, molds, yeasts and VOC’s can build up to be a serious problem. Finding the right air filtration solution begins by taking into account the airflow, the operating environment, the space constraints and the maintenance requirements.
  • Prevost Bus Filter
Whether traveling on an endless high-traffic intercity bus route or a 600 mile motor coach tour showcasing the interior of Alaska and Yukon Territory, personal comfort is key to the quality of the experience. With proper air filtration, an HVAC system properly designed for transportation vehicles can eliminate adverse health effects caused by poor indoor air quality. Prevost Car Company of Ste. Claire, Quebec has spent over 70 years producing buses and motor homes with optimal comfort.
  • Pedway Air Filtration at Midway Airport
When farmland gave way to the emerging field of commercial aviation in the mid-1920’s on Chicago’s southwest side, the city got its first airport, Midway. Expansion plans over the past decade include five runways, now covering over 650 acres of land. Midway Airport offers hundreds of domestic and international flights daily. Construction of the Pedway or people mover, an enclosed corridor that safely transports travelers directly to Midway from the rail station includes windows with louvers at the top and bottom for natural ventilation. Air filters were installed within the louvers to eliminate the potential for infiltration of rain, snow and other elements. Because the louvers open directly to the outside, it was specified that the filters could not disintegrate over time.
