Activated Carbon Air Filter Media for Odor/Fume Removal
Activated carbon, is widely recognized as an
effective method of removing and preventing odor/fume buildup in
recirculated air. Utilizing the finest quality carbon
coatings, Permatron offers bulk media and pads cut to size.
Synthetic media substrates (non-woven polyester) are impregnated with finely ground coatings, and heat set to retain those coatings even when the media is rinsed or vacuumed. Just as a sponge soaks up water, activated carbon media adsorbs odors and fumes. Noxious odors are pulled and held by molecular action into millions of tiny pores in the media coating. The odor causing molecules are actually removed from the air permanently, not masked by another odor.
Air velocity, humidity, odor level and temperature influence the odor elimination process and the life expectancy of the activated carbon. At times of high odor generation, air should recirculate through the media to achieve maximum effectiveness. The rate of adsorption depends on the relationship between the pore structure, or surface area, and the shape of the contaminating molecules. Our activated carbon is ground to an extremely fine particle size to increase the surface area available for adsorption. Other media coatings are available upon request.
Maximum density carbon is also available to remove and control heavy odors/fumes in commercial and residential applications. Large quantities (20, 45, or 90 grams per square foot) of high quality, 60% minimum activity granular carbon is impregnated into a specially designed flexible substrate. 5 million square feet of surface area per pound. Granular carbon that will not settle. Adsorption process does not affect pressure drop because gases are adsorbed inside carbon and do not build up on the outside. Suitable for electronic and mechanical air cleaners; ductless bath fans, microwave ovens and ductless range hoods. Rolls come with out a backing, but are available with expanded metal or perforated laminate backings. All rolls can be cut to size with a standard paper cutter. Rolls with expanded metal will require further framing due to sharp edges. Rolls with perforated laminate can be handled safely, and may be suitable for use without framing.
